Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups (280 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (260 g) chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (80 g) white chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • Holiday sprinkles
  • Orange zest
  • Chocolate chunks instead of chips
  • Add 1/2 teaspoon ginger for extra warmth
  • Use brown butter for deeper flavor

Instructions

  1. Whisk flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl. In a separate mixing bowl, cream softened butter with brown and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  2. Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture and stir until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips and white chocolate chips if using.
  3. Scoop 2-tablespoon dough balls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Chill for 30–45 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place dough balls 2 inches apart on a baking tray. Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are golden but centers remain soft. Cool on tray 5 minutes, then transfer to rack.
