Puff Pastry Apple Roses are delightful tarts made from thinly sliced apples wrapped in flaky pastry.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (thawed)
  • 2 large apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup apricot preserves (for glazing)
  • Flour (for dusting)
  • Optional: powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Core and slice the apples thinly. In a bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice, cinnamon, and sugar. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to soften.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each sheet of puff pastry to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut each sheet into strips approximately 2 inches wide and 12 inches long.
  4. Overlap apple slices along one edge of the puff pastry strips, making sure the tops of the apple slices stick out slightly.
  5. Fold the bottom half of the pastry strip up to cover the bottom of the apple slices, creating a rose shape.
  6. Starting from one end, carefully roll the pastry strip to form a rose. Pinch the bottom to secure it.
  7. Place the rose-shaped tarts into a greased muffin tin, ensuring they stand upright.
  8. Brush the tops of the tarts with melted butter for a golden finish.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  10. In the last few minutes of baking, warm the apricot preserves in a small saucepan. Brush over the baked tarts for a glossy finish.
  11. Remove the tarts from the oven and let them cool for about 10-15 minutes before removing them from the tin.

Notes

  • Serve warm or at room temperature.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving for extra sweetness.
