Ingredients
Scale
4 medium Yukon Gold Potatoes
1 cup Water
2 tablespoons Canola Oil
2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
1 teaspoon Kosher Salt
1 teaspoon Paprika (optional)
1 teaspoon Freshly Ground Pepper (optional)
2 tablespoons Chives or other fresh herbs (optional)
Instructions
Soak Yukon Gold potatoes in hot water for 5 minutes. Drain, rinse, and dry them thoroughly.
Heat a heavy skillet over medium heat. Whisk together water, canola oil, and kosher salt. Add the potatoes in an even layer, cover, and cook for 5 minutes.
Uncover the skillet and stir in 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter. Cover again and cook for 2 minutes.
Uncover and let the potatoes cook undisturbed for 5 minutes to crisp the bottoms. Mix in the second tablespoon of butter and add paprika.
Spread the potatoes into an even layer and cook for an additional 6 minutes. Stir every 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Sprinkle with additional kosher salt and serve hot. Garnish with optional freshly ground pepper and chives or fresh herbs.
Notes
Ensure potatoes are dried thoroughly after rinsing to prevent sticking and achieve optimal crispiness.
A heavy skillet, like cast iron, is recommended for even heat retention and better crisping.
Avoid constant stirring to allow the potatoes to form a crust.
Adjust cooking times to achieve your desired level of crispiness.
Experiment with additional seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, or cayenne pepper.
Consider using olive oil instead of canola oil for a Mediterranean twist.
Sweet potatoes can be used for a sweeter variation.
Add cheese in the last few minutes of cooking for a cheesy delight.
Fold in crispy bacon bits after cooking for added flavor.
Sprinkle with lemon zest before serving for a refreshing zing.
