Delight in Hawaiian malasadas, soft and sweet doughnuts perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Custard for filling

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast together. Allow the mixture to sit for around 5-10 minutes, or until it’s foamy and fragrant.
  2. In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour and salt.
  3. Pour the foamy yeast mixture into the bowl with the flour, then add the eggs, softened butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until a soft dough begins to form.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Place your kneaded dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean cloth. Let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size—about 1 hour.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough gently to release the air. Shape it into your desired forms.
  7. Place your shaped malasadas into a greased baking pan. Cover them again and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the malasadas are golden brown.
