Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 croissants, day-old
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Tear or cut the day-old croissants into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Spread the croissant pieces evenly in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle the cooked sausage and shredded cheeses over the croissant pieces.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the croissant and cheese mixture.
  6. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4 hours. This makes the croissant breakfast casserole ahead of time.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Remove the plastic wrap and bake the make ahead croissant breakfast casserole for 40-50 minutes, or until the casserole is puffed up, golden brown, and set in the center.
  9. Let the croissant breakfast casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Using day-old croissants helps them absorb the egg mixture better.
  • You can customize the fillings with cooked bacon, ham, or vegetables.
  • For a sweeter version, omit the sausage and add a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg to the egg mixture.
  • This make ahead croissant breakfast casserole can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake as directed.
