Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Tablespoons light brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1 Tablespoon natural cocoa powder
  • Pinch of table salt (about 1/16th teaspoon)
  • ¾ cup milk (divided)
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (may substitute with more milk)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  2. Pour in approximately 2-3 tablespoons of milk and whisk until the mixture becomes smooth.
  3. Place the saucepan over low heat. Keep whisking until the sugar starts to melt and the mixture darkens.
  4. Gradually add the remaining milk and heavy cream. Continue whisking until it is steaming hot.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Pour into a heatproof mug and serve warm.

Notes

  • This hot cocoa can be enhanced with whipped cream or marshmallows.
  • For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with more milk.
