  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour and salt together.
  3. Gradually add the flour mixture to the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  6. In a large pot, bring about 10 cups of water to a boil. Add baking soda carefully to avoid splattering.
  7. Once dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small pieces (about 1-2 inches in size). Roll each piece into a ball.
  8. Boil each pretzel bite in the baking soda bath for about 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Whisk the egg and brush it over the pretzel bites. This will give them a beautiful golden color.
  10. Generously sprinkle coarse sea salt over the pretzel bites.
  11. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
