Ingredients
Scale
2 cups warm water
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
5 1/2 to 6 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon melted butter (optional, for brushing)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Stir to dissolve, then sprinkle yeast on top. Let it sit until foamy (5–10 minutes).
Stir in salt and oil. Add 3 cups of flour and mix. Gradually add remaining flour until dough pulls away from the sides.
Knead dough for 8–10 minutes by hand (or 5–6 minutes in a mixer) until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Punch down dough. Divide and shape into two loaves. Place into greased 9×5-inch pans.
Cover and let rise for 30–40 minutes until dough rises above the pans.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden brown or 190°F internal temp.
Optionally brush with melted butter. Let cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire rack.
Notes
