Ingredients
Scale
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup milk
Green frosting
Black decorating gel
Candy stars or sprinkles
Instructions
Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, until just combined.
Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out hat shapes using a witch hat cookie cutter.
Place the cut-out Spooky cookies onto the prepared baking sheets.
Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let them cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cooled, frost the widest part of the cookie (the brim) with green frosting.
Use black decorating gel to draw a line around the edge of the brim and to create the hatband and buckle.
Add a candy star or sprinkles to the hatband for extra detail.
These Spooky Witch Hat Cookies are ready to be enjoyed!
Notes
Ensure your butter is truly softened for the best cookie texture.
Don’t overmix the dough once the flour is added.
Chill time is important to prevent the Spooky cookies from spreading too much during baking.
Decorating gel is best for fine details on your Witch Hat Cookies.
