A family-favorite comfort dish, this Tater Tot Sloppy Joe Skillet combines classic sloppy joe flavors with crispy tater tots in one easy, cheesy, oven-baked meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 12 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and bake frozen tater tots according to package directions until golden and crispy.
  2. Heat olive oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add ground beef and chopped onion; cook for 6-8 minutes, breaking up the beef until browned.
  4. Drain excess grease from the skillet.
  5. Stir in minced garlic, salt, black pepper, onion powder, and paprika. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. Mix in tomato sauce, ketchup, BBQ sauce, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce.
  7. Simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.
  8. Arrange the crispy tater tots in a single layer over the beef mixture in the skillet.
  9. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top of the tater tots.
  10. Broil for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Let the skillet rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider using smoked paprika or adding diced bell peppers with the onion.
  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Serve with a side salad to balance the richness of the Tater Tot Sloppy Joe Skillet.
  • To make the tater tots extra crispy, bake them separately on a sheet pan before adding them to the skillet.
