- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 (8-oz.) block cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
- Pink food coloring (as needed)
- Red food coloring (as needed)
- Sprinkles (for decoration)
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated sugar until fluffy and pale.
- Beat in the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet mixture, mixing continuously until fully incorporated.
- Shape the dough into two flattened discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Lightly flour a surface and roll out one disc of dough to about 1/8-inch thick.
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes and transfer to baking sheets.
- Place the cut cookies in the freezer for 10 minutes.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool completely on baking sheets.
- Beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt, then beat until fluffy.
- Divide the frosting into three bowls. Add pink food coloring to one bowl and red to another.
